Raquel Welch: A Legacy Up for Auction

On September 5, 2024, what would have been Raquel Welch’s birthday, Julien’s Auctions will host Raquel Welch Part Two, a highly anticipated live auction that follows the success of Bombshell: The Raquel Welch Auction. This event will feature over 250 personal items from the late star’s estate, offering fans and collectors a unique opportunity to own a piece of Hollywood history.

Among the items up for bid is the metallic gown costume Welch wore in the 1994 comedy Naked Gun 33⅓: The Final Insult. This form-fitting, grey spandex dress with a halter neck and matching sleeves is a highlight of the auction, showcasing Welch’s iconic style and her memorable role in the film. The lot also includes two black-and-white stills from the movie and a snapshot of Welch wearing the costume on set, with an estimated value of $200 – $300.

The auction also includes several of Welch’s most iconic red carpet outfits, such as the navy blue lace cocktail dress by Isabelle Allard Paris that she wore to the Vanity Fair Oscar party in 1996. This dress, along with other evening garments, reflects Welch’s status as a fashion icon who consistently turned heads on the red carpet.

In addition to her glamorous wardrobe, the auction offers a glimpse into Welch’s personal life. A particularly noteworthy item is her personally owned copy of the December 1979 issue of Playboy magazine, in which she appeared on the cover and in a sensual pictorial. This magazine, paired with a signed outtake photo, is a rare piece of memorabilia that highlights Welch’s significant impact on pop culture.

Other personal items include books about makeup inscribed and signed by Welch, a 1984 portrait by Clayton LaFevre capturing Welch in workout attire, and several wigs from the Raquel Welch Collection. These items not only reflect her career in film and fashion but also her entrepreneurial spirit and influence in the beauty industry.

The auction will also feature a selection of Welch’s jewelry and art, including the necklace she wore during her Hollywood Walk of Fame star ceremony in 1996. This brass-tone, bead, and simulated pearl necklace, with an estimated value of $100 – $200, exemplifies Welch’s elegance and timeless style.

A unique photograph of Bruce Springsteen, taken by Terry O’Neill and gifted to Welch, is another highlight. The signed and inscribed black-and-white image underscores Welch’s connections within the entertainment industry and her status as a beloved figure among her peers.

Raquel Welch Part Two is more than just an auction; it’s a celebration of a woman who defined an era and left a lasting legacy in Hollywood. Each item tells a story, offering a rare chance to connect with the life and career of Raquel Welch. The auction goes live on September 5, 2024, providing an unparalleled opportunity to own a piece of Hollywood history.
