CJ 4DPLEX Outpaces Domestic Box Office Growth

CJ 4DPLEX, a worldwide leading producer of premium film formats and cinema technologies, today announced a standout first-half performance for 2025, with its multisensory 4DX and panoramic SCREENX premium formats achieving a massive 47% year-over-year growth in the domestic market. This far surpasses the industry’s overall 15% increase during the same six-month period, according to data available from Comscore.

Driven by strong demand for elevated cinematic experiences, 4DX and SCREENX, combined to gross over $55 million during the first six months of the year, marking the highest domestic first-half result in the company’s history.

“Achieving record-breaking results in the domestic market during the first half of the year was made possible thanks to the strong collaboration with leading Hollywood filmmakers and studios who truly embraced the unique potential of 4DX and SCREENX.” said Jun Bang, CEO of CJ 4DPLEX. “It’s been incredibly encouraging to see audiences respond to the immersive cinema experience. Starting with Jurassic World Rebirth, we look forward to expanding the power of 4DX and SCREENX across a wide range of genres in the second half of the year.”

“Audiences are clearly seeking out memorable moments they can’t replicate at home,” said Don Savant, CEO & President, CJ 4DPLEX America. “This surge in demand underscores that moviegoing is not only back, but evolving, and premium formats like 4DX and SCREENX are redefining what the theatrical experience can be.”

First-half of 2025 domestic highlights include:

  • Universal Pictures’ How to Train Your Dragon in 4DX: Grossed $5.2 million to date and averaging $81,000 per screen, making it the top-grossing 4DX title so far this year.
  • Warner Bros. Pictures’ Final Destination Bloodlines in 4DX: Delivered a strong domestic opening, grossing $2 million and averaging over 60% occupancy. The thriller captured 4% of the total domestic opening across just 59 screens.
  • Apple Studios’ F1: The Movie in 4DX: Matched the above momentum with $2 million opening weekend in domestic gross, 56% average occupancy and 3.5% share of the total domestic opening on 65 screens
  • Warner Bros. Pictures’ A Minecraft Movie in SCREENX has earned $3.4 million to date, making it the highest-grossing SCREENX title of 2025 so far.

These results reinforce the strategic value of premium format integrations and further highlight the growing role of 4DX and SCREENX in driving theatrical attendance and boosting per-screen revenue.
