Paul Rudd and Jenna Ortega Star in A24 Dark Comedy ‘Death of a Unicorn’

A24 is back with another uniquely dark and quirky offering, Death of a Unicorn, and the first trailer promises a wild ride. Directed by Alex Scharfman, the film stars Paul Rudd and Jenna Ortega as Elliot and Riley, a father-daughter duo who find themselves in an unusual predicament after an accidental encounter with a unicorn.

The story begins when Elliot and Riley, en route to a weekend retreat, inadvertently hit and kill a unicorn with their car. While they grapple with their guilt and disbelief, Elliot’s billionaire boss (played by Richard E. Grant) discovers the mythical creature and becomes fixated on its curative properties. What unfolds is a darkly comedic tale as the pair navigate their involvement in the unfolding chaos while trying to conceal their actions.

The trailer teases sharp humor and offbeat tension, with Rudd and Ortega showcasing their comedic timing and on-screen chemistry. Adding to the film’s charm is its eclectic cast, including Will Poulter and Téa Leoni, along with a soundtrack composed by John Carpenter, Cody Carpenter, and Daniel Davies, promising a moody and memorable score.

Set to hit cinemas in Spring 2025, Death of a Unicorn looks to be another bold addition to A24’s growing slate of unconventional films. With its blend of absurdity, heart, and dark humor, this magical mishap is sure to captivate audiences looking for something refreshingly different. Stay tuned for what could become one of the most talked-about films of the year.
