‘M:I 8’ Trailer Unveils Tom Cruise’s Return in ‘The Final Reckoning’

The title of Tom Cruise’s highly anticipated eighth Mission: Impossible movie has been confirmed, coinciding with the release of its action-packed first trailer. The film, officially named The Final Reckoning, was initially planned as the second part of Dead Reckoning but has since evolved into its own chapter.

Fans can expect its release on May 23, 2025, following numerous pandemic-related delays and the recent SAG-AFTRA strike.

Cruise shared the new title and a poster on Monday with the teaser phrase, “Every choice has led to this.” The trailer features adrenaline-pumping sequences, with Cruise scuba diving into a submerged wreck, piloting a biplane, and, as expected, sprinting through intense action scenes. Angela Bassett also returns as CIA Director Erika Sloane, reprising her role from Mission: Impossible – Fallout.

In the previous film, Dead Reckoning, Ethan Hunt (Cruise) faced a formidable AI known as The Entity, which appeared capable of predicting his every action. As the story closed, Hunt discovered the AI’s hidden location aboard a decommissioned Russian submarine, only to face a new challenge from his old adversary Gabriel, portrayed by Esai Morales.

Morales is back for this installment, joined by franchise regulars Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames, Hayley Atwell, Vanessa Kirby, Pom Klementieff, Shea Whigham, Henry Czerny, Greg Tarzan Davis, Mariela Garriga, and Indira Varma. New additions to the star-studded cast include Hannah Waddingham, Janet McTeer, Holt McCallany, Katy O’Brian, Nick Offerman, and Tramell Tillman.

Veteran director Christopher McQuarrie once again takes the helm, having previously directed Rogue Nation, Fallout, and Dead Reckoning. He is also co-writing the script alongside Bruce Geller and Erik Jendresen. Cruise and McQuarrie return as producers, with executive producers Chris Brock, David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, Tommy Gormley, Don Granger, and Susan Novick, and Gina Hallas as co-producer.
