Marian Álvarez, Fernando Valdivieso, Paz Vega and Carlos Santos star in ‘1992’

Álex de la Iglesia’s new series is a thriller revolving around a series of murders connected to the Universal Exposition of Seville in ‘1992’

Netflix today confirmed the start of filming in Madrid of ‘1992′, the new fiction series directed by Álex de la Iglesia. The filming of this new thriller will take place in various locations in Seville and Madrid.

Marian Álvarez (Wounded), Fernando Valdivielso (Venus), Paz Vega (Sex and Lucia) and Carlos Santos (Smoke & Mirrors), among others, star in this new series that will revolve around mysterious murders in which the same pattern is always repeated: all the victims have been burned and a doll of Curro, the iconic mascot of Expo ’92 in Seville, appears next to the bodies.

Álex de la Iglesia, one of the most influential directors of the Spanish audiovisual industry with films such as The day of the beast, The Oxford murders and Common wealth, has created his first series for Netflix together with Jorge Guerricaechevarría. With a script by Pablo Tébar and Jorge Valdano, 1992 will be directed by Álex de la Iglesia himself.

Synopsis of ‘1992’

After the death of her husband in a strange explosion, Amparo (Marian Alvárez) begins to search for answers with the only help of Richi (Fernando Valdivielso), a security guard, ex-cop and alcoholic. Meanwhile, the murders always follow the same pattern: next to the burned bodies of the victims appears a doll of Curro, the iconic mascot of the Expo ’92 in Seville.
