Tau Tau Menghan : New Way of Breaking Through the Lens for Female Young Directors

When ‘Breaking Through the Lens ‘joined by one of the most active Berlin  Indie production rebels-Tau Tau Menghan during Berlinale 2023, together they demanded radical reforms in the system of filmmaking in some major European countries to support the under presented female filmmakers.

They laid open what almost all parties involved had known for some time: the system of film production and distribution in Europe is killing the freedom and creatives of filmmaking:Production is ruled by obsolete structures, long bureaucratic decision-making processes, and ill-advised by non-creative network leaders or communicators that only passing on ‘politically right ‘inanities and have no knowledge of the frontline filmmaking experiences.

Tau Tau Menghan shared her ‘Cheap,Hands-Dirty,Efficient -Resource Financing method’ as one of the solutions to some of these challenges.With her innovative method, she produced 2 feature films in much shorter time than most filmmakers would rely on the approval of funding systems. Her films not only winning over 20 international film awards including a best independent film producer at HIPFF, they also becoming the shinning  inviting cards for all the talents on board to be recognized faster to next level in film industry.

During Berlinale 2023, Tau Tau Menghan and more platforms are exploring more strategies to move forward faster and hopefully inject the industry with a fresh new blood.
