The No. 1 Amazon bestseller, The Backwards K, is on track for the silver screen, thanks to an exciting collaboration between author J.J. Hebert and actor-producer Jesse Metcalfe. Known for his roles in John Tucker Must Die and Desperate Housewives, Metcalfe is now stepping into a new role as a producer to adapt this compelling story for film.

J.J. Hebert, author of The Backwards K, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, noting, “Jesse and I have agreed to develop The Backwards K together. He has a long history of success as an actor, and this project, like his other projects in development, aims to put him on the map as a producer.” This project represents Metcalfe’s ongoing transition from acting into film production, as he brings both his talent and industry connections to the table.

Metcalfe, 45, is no stranger to the entertainment world, with over 40 credits to his name in film and television, including Desperate Housewives, Hard Kill alongside Bruce Willis, and Clear Cut with Alec Baldwin. He recently praised The Backwards K in a video posted by Hebert on YouTube, where he described the novel as “truly captivating,” admiring how the book brings to life the story of Jet Brine, a former baseball star navigating the ups and downs of life after his career ends.

For Metcalfe, the book’s appeal extends beyond its sports theme. He highlighted its exploration of “redemption, love, resilience, and the power of second chances,” themes that lend the story universal appeal. “Hebert’s writing is incredibly immersive. I felt like I was right there with Jet, experiencing both his triumphs and his struggles,” Metcalfe shared. He added that The Backwards K is “a story about resilience and finding your true path, which makes it incredibly relatable, whether you’re a baseball fan or not.”

The adaptation effort comes under Hebert’s company, MindStir Media, a top U.S. self-publishing company that aims to amplify the voices of independent authors. MindStir already boasts high-profile endorsements, including those from Mariel Hemingway, granddaughter of literary icon Ernest Hemingway, and Shark Tank’s Kevin Harrington. “MindStir is all about giving every independent author a voice and providing them with opportunities that otherwise would never have been available to them,” Hebert said.

Hebert and Metcalfe are optimistic about bringing The Backwards K to audiences in theaters. “There aren’t enough great baseball movies on the market,” Hebert remarked, expressing confidence that this film will stand out. The Backwards K by J.J. Hebert is available on Amazon.com and other retailers, offering readers a chance to experience the book before it hits the big screen.
