Set against the backdrop of online dating and the growing disconnect between people navigating modern relationships, The Lonely Crowd follows Peter and Ashley as what begins as a seemingly ordinary first date quickly unravels into conflict. Misunderstandings, emotional baggage, and preconceived notions drive the pair apart—until a chance encounter later that night thrusts them into a dangerous situation involving corrupt police officers, kidnapping, and stolen money.
Rather than relying solely on thriller conventions, The Lonely Crowd places its focus on the emotional realities behind its characters. At its core, the film examines how loneliness, pride, fear, and assumptions can shape the way people connect—or fail to connect. The story aims to balance high-stakes tension with a more intimate exploration of vulnerability and trust, offering audiences a romance grounded in contemporary social dynamics.
Written and directed by David St. Clair, the project represents a significant milestone for Desario Productions, marking St. Clair’s first feature-length film after previously directing two award-winning short films. Reflecting on the project, St. Clair explains that the creative team’s priority was to build a suspenseful story without losing sight of authentic human emotion.
“Story comes first. We wanted to make a film that moves with energy and suspense but is grounded in something honest about the way people struggle to connect.”
The film stars Adam Wesley as Peter and Taylor Anne Danehower as Ashley, with supporting performances from Giancarlo Carmona, Jon Oshei, Haley Spencer, Blair Chambers, and Andrew Mena.

Founded in 2017 by David St. Clair and Jim St. Clair, Desario Productions has focused on developing character-driven independent films, with an emphasis on compelling stories and emotionally engaging performances.
The Lonely Crowd is currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video, with additional digital platforms and international releases expected in the near future.
