Los Angeles- The award-winning short film, Unborn is set to premiere on Friday May 12, 2023, at 12 AM PST Mother’s Day weekend. Unborn centers around the longing for motherhood and honoring those who have had that want for a child that was never able to be born due to miscarriage, abortion, infertility, or other reasons. The project has garnered accolades, created a buzz in the film festival circuit, and won several awards, including Best Cinematography from Diversity in Cannes Short Film Showcase. The film aims to open the space to have these conversations. Make sure to watch Unborn HERE when it premieres.

Unborn was created by Sasha Marie Speer, who also stars in the film alongside Mychel Scott, Nikki Rouel, Allisha Smith, Erin Gilmore, and Jessica Kantor. Sasha’s real-life experience with her inability to get pregnant and the grief that came with it inspired the film’s creation. Through this artwork, Sasha found strength to share her story with other women, which helped her reach a place of peace within herself. Sasha says, “So many women throughout the festival circuit came forth wanting to share their story for the first time. This is a big reason I feel more people should have the opportunity to see the film. They deserve a space to feel seen.” Sasha hopes Unborn will help inspire others to share their stories, bring light to fertility issues, and redefine what it means to be a parent.

Before its official premiere, Unborn has been making waves in the film industry. The film has received awards from Diversity in Cannes, Paris International Short Festival, Atlanta Movie Awards, LA Sun Film Festival, Experimental Forum, Experimental Dance & Music Film Festival, Texas Arthouse Film Festival, Palm Springs Movie Awards, New York World Film Festival, Festival Audiovisual Internacional Origen, Houston Underwater Film Festival, Toronto Indie Shorts, and Paris Women Festival. The film was also a finalist at the International Cosmopolitan Film Festival of Tokyo and the Berlin International Art Film Festival.
