Produced on a modest budget of $20,000, the film highlights Malik Fromm’s dedication and versatility as he took on multiple roles in directing, writing, and editing. Collaborating with Tru Talent Agency for casting, Orange Lion Studios and Malik Fromm brought together a talented cast to bring the story to life. Paul Reyes, who played a significant role in the project’s development, also portrayed Commissioner Diaz, a key figure in Cypher City.

Malik Fromm’s journey to creating “Shadows of Betrayal” began with childhood inspirations from films like ‘Gladiator’ and ‘2001: A Space Odyssey.’ Over eight years, from inception at age 18 to completion at 26, Malik’s vision for the film evolved, culminating in the creation of Cypher City, a unique and fictional urban landscape within Reno. This setting serves as a rich backdrop for the story, with Commissioner Diaz, portrayed by Paul Reyes, standing as a key figure in the city. Additionally, the presence of Malik’s dog Russell as Ian’s loyal companion, Bear, adds a personal touch that resonates deeply with audiences.

Malik worked with Russell over several months, filming him to ensure he never looked at the camera and acted naturally in each scene. Russell’s natural inclination to perform beautifully on screen allowed him to seamlessly follow Ian Blair’s character throughout the scenes. This authentic bond between Malik and Russell translates beautifully on screen, enriching the emotional depth of the story and resonating deeply with audiences.

Overall, “Shadows of Betrayal: Chronicles of Ian Blair” is a compelling and visually stunning film that showcases Malik Fromm’s growth and development as a filmmaker, delivering a story of betrayal, justice, and redemption set against the backdrop of Cypher City in Reno, Nevada.

Additionally, Traci Fox, Quincy Churchill, and Jacob Lee brought their unique skills to the project. Nic York, a friend of Malik and a military veteran with hand-to-hand combat experience, portrayed the bounty hunter Jax McCoy.

Premiering on Veterans Day, November 11, 2023, to an enthusiastic audience of over 250 attendees, the film received valuable feedback that allowed the team to refine it before its official release on Amazon Prime on July 5, 2024. Audiences praised the genuine transformation depicted on screen, with Malik Fromm’s portrayal of Ian Blair from age 18 to 26 showcasing his visible growth over the years. Unlike many contemporary films that rely on makeup to depict age differences, Malik’s natural aging process brought an authentic and unique layer to the film, resonating deeply with viewers.
